Late arrival information for freshmen and transfer students
If you do not report to IU three business days prior to the start of classes (and complete the orientation process as scheduled) you will not be allowed to register for that semester.
However, you can make a late arrival request by following the instructions below. Well-documented requests for exceptions due to unique circumstances will be considered, as appropriate.
This is a joint policy of University Division, the Office of International Services, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and also applies to undergraduate students returning to IU after an absence of more than two semesters.
Late arrival information for graduate students
Please contact your graduate department if you will be arriving late. Your graduate department will need to email firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm your late arrival.
How to make a late arrival request
To request a late arrival, email email@example.com with your reason for being late, as well as any documentation you have to support your need to arrive after the report date on your I-20 document. Please also indicate the date you will arrive in the U.S. in your iStart checklist.
A late arrival letter will be sent to your Indiana University email account before you arrive in the U.S. You will need to print and carry this letter with you, along with the I-20 you have now, when you enter the U.S.
You must attend new student orientation before you can begin classes. Arriving late to Indiana University will severely delay your testing and registration for coursework.
